Volunteering

Parent Volunteer Hours
Parents, guardians, and the community are an integral part of the Leonardo da Vinci Health Sciences Charter School enriched classroom experience. LdVCS depends on its volunteers to make our charter school a special, supportive place to learn and grow. As part of the LdVCS Team, parents/guardians are encouraged to volunteer as many hours as their schedule permits.

There are several ways you can serve as a volunteer:

  • Classroom: Instruction; run copies; cut (prep work for the teacher); Room Parent.
  • Serve as an active member on our Board of Trustees and/or Governance Committees: Teachers, staff, parents, and community members serve as members of our governance structure.
  • Before and After School: Traffic in the parking lot; supervision of students.
  • Recess and Lunch: Supervision of students.
  • Everyone A Reader (EAR) Program: One hour working with a team of four students for 15 minutes each. Those same four students read 3-4 days a week for 4 different tutors who form a team.
  • At Home: Check with your child’s teacher to see what projects can be done at home for class.
  • Donation of Classroom Supplies/Materials and/or Monetary Donations: Donations of supplies and materials and/or monetary donations can help LdV and are always welcome.

Please contact your child’s teacher or the director if you have questions about how you can volunteer.

LEONARDO DA VINCI HEALTH SCIENCES CHARTER SCHOOL (LdVCS)
SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS (POLICY)

I. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
Leonardo da Vinci Health Sciences Charter School very much appreciates the valuable service volunteers provide for our students and staff. LdVCS depends on its volunteers to make our charter school a special, supportive place to learn and grow.

II. GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY:
Parents, guardians, and the community are an integral part of the Leonardo da Vinci Health Sciences (LdVCS) enriched classroom experience. Volunteers provide numerous benefits including:

1. Enriching school experiences of individual children. As a volunteer you will use your special talents to support a nurturing educational environment which can help increase a child's interest and motivation for learning.

2. Providing a variety of experiences that support the instructional program.

3. Enabling teaching staff to devote more quality time to the duties of classroom teaching.

4. Showing our children that we care about their education.

As a volunteer, there is a code of ethics which must be honored. With a code of ethics, you assume certain responsibilities and will be expected to account for what you do during your volunteer experience. Listed below are some guidelines and responsibilities:

1. Anyone who volunteers on a regular basis or is in contact with students must have a current tuberculosis test (TB) on file in the school office.

2. Arrange with the classroom teacher the dates and times you will be in the classroom. Be punctual and reliable. Please notify the teacher/school if there is a change in plans.

3. Before entering the classroom, you must sign in with the office, display your identification tag at all times, and wait until the classroom teacher gives you instructions.

5. When you are volunteering in the classroom, please remember that you are doing so under the direction of the teacher. Ask questions! If something is unclear, please ask for clarification.

6. Keep matters confidential. We insist that you maintain confidentiality outside of class. If parents ask you about a student's performance or behavior, please refer them to the teacher. It is inappropriate to discuss situations observed while acting as a volunteer.

7. Pre-school children are not allowed to be with volunteers while working in the classroom.
